Found a Penny at the PO but Was It Mine to Begin With?

Today I rode my bike to the post office to mail a few things. I sold this adorable little Scotty dog and cat vintage linen on Etsy and had to ship it off.

While I was standing in line, and there was a line since only one clerk was working, the guy in line behind me bemoaned the fact that "it is the busiest time of day, lunchtime, and they should have more people out here." Of course being the wisecracker I am, I said, "But it's lunchtime. They have to eat." I rolled my eyes but he might not have caught that. Then he declared his solution to balancing the budget:  Get rid of 90% of government workers. Okay. That's probably a good start.

I then noticed that he was holding one flimsy little envelope. I asked him if he just needed one stamp. He did. So, I told him I could sell him one and proceeded to dig out my little book of Liberty Bell Forever stamps. He gave me 45 cents, he took the stamp, and I gave him his change:  1 penny. He said he didn't need it but took it and turned around and left. I noticed after he left that there was a penny on the counter provided to address letters and packages. He had walked right by there. Had he tossed the penny there? Was it there when I came in and I missed it?

Who knows? It's mine now!
